Earnings just posted regarding the second largest position of IYZ namely Verizon Communications Inc. “…Excluding special items, the company's quarterly net income per share dropped 6.7%, yet came in above the Wall Street analysts' estimate. Reflecting solid revenue growths in wireless as well as wireline operations, the New York-based company's top line results rose 6.4% for the quarter.” To read the complete report click here.

IYZ – iShares Dow Jones US Telecommunications Index has maintained its demand status for nearly four years according to its point & figure chart. The top three positions Verizon, AT&T, Sprint Nextel Corp make up 50% of the current allocation.

IXP - iShares S&P Global Telecommunications Sector Index Fund which unlike IYZ has recently reversed into a column of O’s. Its top five holdings are: 1) Vodafone Group Plc [VOD] 16.21%, 2) Verizon Communications Inc [VZ] 9.26%, 3) Telefonica SA [TEF] 8.15%, 4) SBC Communications Inc [SBC] 7.40%, 5) BellSouth Corp [BLS] 4.54%
